May Update

Posted on May 28th, 2015

Planting conditions in west central IL and southeast IA were near perfect this year.  Corn planting wrapped up in April and bean planting in early May with the exception of some ground we held off planting so that we could install drainage tile.  Plastic, perforated tile is installed every 30'-50' in a field at a depth of 3'-5' in order to drain excess water from the field.  This allows fields to dry faster in the spring which means we can plant earlier.  It also keeps young corn and bean plants out of flooded, muddy conditions after planting.  It's an expensive and time consuming process, but it's money well spent in many soil types in the mid-west. Below are Dan, David, and Darel installing tile.
